Up until the 1950s the country was racially segregated and within white communities, ethnic groups were allowed to form their own neighborhoods. In the 1950s the federal government broke this up and forced black people into those communities which caused a flight to the suburbs and the country to stop investing more than the bare minimum in it's cities. With immigration you have the breakup of the white suburban communities now too with middle class latinos & asians and there's nowhere to run to so they want to just stop it from continuing. These other groups (27% of the population) are also benefiting from minority programs which were designed for Black Americans (13% of the population) due to slavery and don't want to have the situation that exists right now reverse itself where the majority of the population has these diversity quotas privileges and Whites have a harder time of it across the board.

So hyping crime and stuff is not really the main issue, the main issue is there are systemic policies set up giving minorities privilege's that white's don't enjoy and they will might expand them once they have a majority control over politics.
