Yup. They would actually get treated better as slaves (owned property) because their being, not just their work output, would have value.

That's true, but that would require slave-driving, which is not necessarily optimal for production. Toward the end of slavery in the US, slave-driving was not even necessary because of generational establishment. In other words, it's much more difficult to enslave people than it is to work people who were already conditioned from birth to be slaves within their environment.
