As a guy who has plenty of female friends and whose DMs are basically full of girls, I’ve started noticing something over the past few months: a surprising number of girls who are 16 or 17 have had at least one ex who was 21+.
And a lot of them seem to have been genuinely traumatized by those relationships, especially when that guy was their first love. If you think about the age gap, sometimes it means the girl was only 14 or 15 while the guy was already 21 or 22. That’s obviously predatory and, in many cases, could fall under statutory rape or involve other forms of sexual abuse depending on the laws where they live.
The bigger issue is the impact it can have on the girl afterward. If her first experience with love and relationships involves an older guy manipulating or taking advantage of her, it can seriously affect how she views relationships and men later on.
I also think there’s a misconception among teenagers that older guys are automatically more mature, experienced, and better sexually or emotionally. That can make younger girls more vulnerable to older men who specifically target them.
Teenagers naturally experience attraction and sexual curiosity, but that doesn’t mean they have the emotional maturity to deal with relationships with adults. There’s a huge difference between having sexual feelings and being ready for an adult relationship.
I literally talked to a girl recently and found out she was only 15. From that moment, I started treating her more like a little sister and giving her life advice rather than entertaining anything romantic. I’m not pretending I’m not attracted to girls, but when you know someone is 15, you have to understand that there are boundaries you simply shouldn’t cross.
Honestly, it’s concerning how normalized some of this has become among this generation.
