Why does leanmaxing depend on body fat % and not total fat amount

If you are 90kg 10% body fat you have about the same amount of fat as someone @ 70kg 13%

Surely since your face doesn't gain muscle the face would look pretty identical at these two numbers (9kg of fat in body although obviously the person who is 90kg will look leaner across the body where the extra muscle is) so why is body fat % used to measure if someone is leanmaxed?

A person who is quite skinny but has no muscle will have quite high body fat % but would surely still have quite a lean face

This makes no sense to me though? Let's say you gain 10kg of muscle but ur fat amount stays exactly the same. Why would your face change? Surely your body doesn't just start allocating that same amount of fat to other parts of the body just before you put on some muscle?

yeah in theory your face wont change if u gained 10kg muscle with 0kg fat
but you will inevitably gain more than 0kg fat if u gain that much muscle

Sure but that's my point. Body fat % seems like a weird indicator for leanmaxing. A skinny person at 10% body fat will have less fat than someone who goes to the gym and is 10% body fat
 
I've always wondered this myself and have never really heard a satisfying explanation for it.

A lot of them don't though, especially not during competition. You also have to consider test bloat for pro's.

lean bodybuilders (if natural) generally don't have any bloat at all.
roids cause bloat, maybe you're talking about that.

Also yeah i'm exactly 90 kg at the height of 176 with muscles and my face leaner than my 74 kg untrained body.

No fucking shit, sherlock, they are fully water dried and 3-4% body-fat, of course they won't have fat faces during competition.
The point is is that when they come back to 10-15% body-fat their face look bloat as fuck.

Not sure why you're so angry. Plenty of pro bodybuilders (and fitness competitors) do not look "bloat as fuck" at 10-15% bodyfat. I would suggest learning more about fitness before entering these conversations. Good luck!

He has almost no separation in his quadriceps, which is a good sign he's not sub-10%. I also get lower ab veins in the 10-12% range. Don't make excuses or move the goal posts, just accept you were wrong and move on.
