what do you mean with white people? Indo-europeans or germanics? you descredit the roman empire having anything to do with 'white people' including the french.
The migration, assimilation, replacement and what later on would result on the ethnogenesis of new groups is what you are not taking into account.
The french from today are not the same "french" from millenia ago, before the romans the celts inhabited iberia, france, britain, ireland.
The gauls (celts from france) were romanized, expelled and assimilated into the gallo-roman culture group and marked the latin origins of what would later become the frankish empire and then france. However the ethnogensis also comes from the visigoths, franks, normans etc.
