To anyone who’s Muslim and wonders why people leave this 70 iq religion Here’s why
The scribe of Muhammad, Abdullah Ibn Sa’d Ibn Abi Sarh also the brother of Othman left Islam. The story is simple. After Muhammad preached for a decade and had no believers, he and his small group of followers were kicked out, and they went to Medina. Since Muhammad was illiterate, he needed a person to write down the Qur’an when revelations came down.
Everything was normal until one day Muhammad finished a verse, and Abdullah was breath-taken and said, “Blessed be Allah, the Best of Creators!” (Tafsir al-Qurtubi/ Quran 23:14). Muhammad told him to write that down. This happened multiple times, and Abdullah thought to himself: if this is truly the word of God, then why is Muhammad taking suggestions from a man?
Anyway, after thinking, Abdullah decided to escape Medina, and he left Islam. Upon coming to Makkah, the people were furious at him. Since Muhammad’s followers used to loot caravans, they saw him as a traitor, and they told him, “Why should we let you back into the city?” He told them everything, saying Muhammad is a fraud and that “your religion is better than his.” He even told them the verses where Muhammad took suggestions. One of them is:
“Blessed be Allah, the Best of Creators” — Surah Al-Mu’minun (23:14).
This line, according to historical accounts (see Tafsir al-Qurtubi and Ibn Kathir), was reportedly said by Abdullah and then included in the Qur’an, raising his doubts about the divine source.
After that, they let him back in. 5–6 years later, Muhammad gained enough followers and was able to conquer Mecca. He had a list of people he wanted executed even if they were clinging to the fabric of the Kaaba. The list included some women and men. After Muhammad’s soldiers entered Mecca, they immediately executed everyone on that list.
Abdullah was scared, and he hid until tensions went down. After that, Abdullah saw Othman, his foster brother (later a Caliph). Othman loving Abdullah as a brother, took him to Muhammad asking for forgiveness. Muhammad, out of respect, let Abdullah go if Othman wasn’t there, he probably would’ve killed him.
After Othman and Abdullah left, Muhammad spoke to his bodyguards, telling them, “Is there not a man amongst you who would’ve killed this guy?” And they told him, “O Prophet of Allah, how could we have known?”
Is not there any intelligent man among you who would stand to this (man) when he saw me desisting from receiving the oath of allegiance, and kill him? They replied: We do not know, Messenger of Allah, what lies in your heart; did you not give us an hint with your eye? He said: It is not proper for a Prophet to have a treacherous eye.

Many Muslims will claim that since he came back to the religion, this story shouldn’t matter but it’s far beyond that. Muhammad would’ve killed Abdullah if it wasn’t for Othman. Anyway, after this, Muhammad died a year or two later. Then Abdullah gained a lot of political power, and at some point, he was the governor of Egypt.
