I'm not talking about scientific understanding of nutrition like what makes up molecules of disaccharides and how they end up broken down, or all the pathways induced by certain foods or drugs. Just basic knowledge of macros, calories, vitamins and minerals, surplus/deficit. Average person does not even know how to read a nutrition facts label, and they sure as hell don't apply it to their eating regimen. My dad is a great example, he wants to lose weight, but he simply refuses to listen when I tell him that adding cups of coconut oil into cooking and dipping everything in barbeque sauce/tartar is making his caloric intake too high. He actually thinks eating lots of olive/coconut oil is some health hack that helps shed weight. JFL.
