it is difficult to host a search engine (i believe, i could be wrong), and the main source of profit is selling your data and having advertisers

less will advertise on a product (although piracy sites have ads, usually thats more in a legal grey area) with a premise like this, + efforts from google and other companies will push for it to get shut down quickly
