My theory:

People who hit puberty late grow longer and thus more until plates close

For example, let’s say puberty lasts 6 years.

If you hit puberty at 12, you will grow normally until 12 (approx 2in/year) and hit a growth spurt and stop growing at 18.

If you hit puberty at 15, you will grow normally until 15 (approx 2in/year) and hit a growth spurt and stop growing at 21. This growing more inches until full adulthood

I was a late bloomer and grew until 19 yo, I'm 6'2
My friend with early puberty stopped growing at 16 and he's 5'8

growing is not dependant on puberty so androgens introduced later = more growth time before plates close

puberty is a stress reaction therefore if you hit puberty late you likely have lower stress hormones so develop better
