You may have seen these Orthodontic Bands somewhere

1790011613649

Now there are multiple ways to apply these Bands, for Overbites they are classified as CLASS II Elastics

They hook from the upper canine down and back to a lower molar

The Concept behind it is pretty simple:

With the constant use of force the bands force the teeth to retract inwards/ project outwards, taking the gum with it and vice versa

With time this is supposed to align the teeth perfectly to create a healthy bite

-

Now thinking logically you may think, since its pushing the gum inward wouldnt it theoretically push my philtral area/ subnasale further in, making my convexities flatter?

The answer is yes, but not in the way youd like

See what actually happens by pulling the area inward you are actually reducing the support of the maxilla onto your bones

This would cause your philtrum to appear longer as it doesnt protrude outwards as much as it used to

will make your nasolabial angle higher

give you more prominent nasolabial folds, again due to the lack of support

-

Now at least your profile has gotten flatter, right?

Hate to break it to you but it has actually gotten worse

Your bite may have gotten corrected, but it had to be compensated by taking away your aesthetics

See what you have focused on is only the upper teeth area

However the Lower teeth have also shifted, more forward: DECREASING THE DISTANCE BETWEEN YOUR LOWER TEETH AND THE CHIN

1790012532526

By this meaning that your Chin has stopped protruding more outward as it used to, making your Convexities LOWER than they were

" Well it could have harmonized with the upper teeth as well, as they both have shifted at the same rate "

Do this now: Try to push your lower Jaw forward just enough for you to have a correct bite

Now what do you think would have happened if your upper teeth suddenly would have moved more inward

1790013395266

Your bite wouldnt stay the same, either it would become an edge to edge/ underbite or what actually happens is

YOUR JAW BEING FORCED TO MOVE BACKWARD TO BE ABLE TO KEEP UP WITH YOUR BITE

Combined with the Retrusion of the Chin actually having a negative effect on your Profile

-

All in all, it depends where you stand/ what your values truly are

-

The Convexities could only change for the better if your glabella was positioned farther back, straightening the line

However measurements like Total Facial Convexitiy or ratios determining the side profile flatness without using the subnasale as the reference point would only worsen as your chin is retruding backwards

what about briging lower jaw foward at 16 and half

So im getting raped by my orthodontist rn :feelsrope:
If you permanently stop wearing your Class II rubber bands, your bite will likely slide backward by 30% to 100%, undoing most or all of your progress.

Your jaw muscles act like stretched springs, without the bands, they will naturally snap your lower jaw back to its old position. If your teeth have already shifted enough to lock together perfectly like gears, this fit will brake the collapse, limiting the relapse to around 30% to 60%.

However, if you quit too early, your teeth will bump peak-to-peak and slide all the way back to a 100% total relapse.
Even a minor slide backward is usually enough to bring back your overbite

Depends on your values, Im not sure how your profile looks like right now.

The change is minimal either way, if your profile isnt that bad Id fix the bite as it supports oral health and jaw function

still not 90 degrees but I was able to somewhat get the convexity angle, 156 could be higher if fulfilling the requirement.

I just guessed your glabella landmark which would create inconsistencies

i was close to doing this but thanks i didnt, but my convexities are cooked, i wonder what i would look like with band + extraction, maybe a more good flat side but bad front due Lack of maxilla support

removing teeth would not have an effect on your face unless it would somehow shrink your palate which usually doesnt happen and is unnoticeable from the outside either way

are there any benefits to it besides it making your teeth straight?

and that’s what annoys me man

it’s gonna be awful to fucking wear retainers for god knows how long

but i guess it’s worth it for the ascension

I haven’t gotten it yet. Although i am close to getting them because of my overbite

I mean having a healthy smile instead of a crossbite would support your jaw/ oral health. Aesthetics alone would have been enough for me as Its just an uncanny feature itself

And most people say the retainers are unnoticeable as they are located on an untouched spot

yeah my smile is genuinely horrific and does not fit my face at all, hopefully braces will alleviate that a bit

yeah i once wore retainers myself

they aren’t noticeable but they’re just very inconvenient and sometimes uncomfortable to wear
