People always say "i look betteer irl trust me"
Why is that?
Camera distortion:
if u take a pic w ur camera there is a lot of disortion depending on your angle. On one angle you nose is gib and chubby, on the othehr its slm and perfect. So angles do matter a lot. also a crutial part is the lens. 30mm and 60mm lenses there is a big difference beetween hose , one will focuse more and the other wont . So that makes the conclusion that your flaws like pimples are much more visiable. The camera distance is also a big part. as i said if u take a pic like 3 cm away u will looks horrid even if ur a htn but if u find the optimal distance it will be better. Irl we see ourselfs in 3d on pictures you cant really see that.
Light:
lights are very important bc for example, why do girls say "pink light ,pink light". The "pink light" shows the feminine features ore ike rosy lips, blush etc. For men white light is supirierr, try it take a pic with bad light for example put smt back on ur pc and light and take a pic in frotn of it and you will see that your features appear more like cheekbone and bones in generell, skin feels better, tighter, less bloated etc.
so i highly recommend taking in infront of bright light or jus t use flash. Thats also why u look much better on proffesianal cameras bc of the lighting once again
Assymerty:
all of us have assymerties due to lots of things like geneticly, due to injuries etc. these might not seem visable irl but on camera they defenetly are. Thats also why u look bad in pic bc maybe of ur eye beeing a bit smalleer than the other your jaw muscles not beign symetrical all of these things arent visable irl for example look at ryon gosling
his eyes are wy off but noon notices it during movies and irl

[The influence of camera-to-object distance and focal length on the representation of faces] - PubMed
When one thinks of the so-called barrel or wide-angle distortion, grotesquely warped faces may come to mind. For less extreme cases with primarily inconspicuous facial proportions, the question, however, still arises whether there may be a resulting impact on the identification of faces. In the...

Static photographs are currently the most often employed stimuli in research on social perception. The method of photograph acquisition might affect the depicted subject’s facial appearance and thus also the impression of such stimuli. An important ...
Perspective distortion from interpersonal distance is an implicit visual cue for social judgments of faces - PubMed
The basis on which people make social judgments from the image of a face remains an important open problem in fields ranging from psychology to neuroscience and economics. Multiple cues from facial appearance influence the judgments that viewers make. Here we investigate the contribution of a...
