you likely have darker hair yourself, people with light features tend to like other people with light features, there's some selection pressure because if they're not careful their traits are lost in their children, people with darker features don't have this preference.

there's some studies on this on eye color, none on hair color but I wouldn't be surprised if it follows the same mechanism.
