Why you shouldn’t get canthoplasty and instead get canthopexy if you’re under 40

Canthoplasty is permanent and can’t be reversed, canthopexy is reversible as it’s done with hidden stitches that can later be removed

Why is this important?

If you’re under 40 and your lower lid is creating sceleral show, it’s likely due to lacking mid face support (flat cheekbones) rather than the lid being lax

You can test if this is true for you by pushing the malar area above your nasolabial fold up, if this makes your lid look normal, it’s a support issue not a lid issue

The reason why this matters is because the best solution is of course to fix mid face support

Cheek implants are cope for this, I have them

The real issue is the soft tissues are too low

A solution for this is a deep plane mid face lift however it’s a bad idea if you’re under 35 because you will get minimal improvement relative to cost and risk. It also makes it harder to do another lift when you really need one in your 40s/50s

So the best temporary solution is to do a lower blepharoplasty and reposition the fat under the eye to improve eye bags/tear trough hollows

In combination with a canthopexy to lift the lower lid

BUT YOU WANT TO DO A CANTHOPEXY BECAUSE WHEN YOUR 45 GETTING A FACELIFT

you will want to release the eyelid and allow it natural support from your cheeks being lifted

If you lift cheeks and have a canthoplasty you’ll end up with your lower lid being too high

Just imagine getting a canthoplasty and then pushing your cheek up, it goes too high

Lower eyelid surgery is such a high risk low reward surgery

Unless you have brutal bags just don’t even worry about it

Tbh just get infraorbital fat grafts and/or infraorbital metal implants

Seen a lot of evidence to the contrary, lower eyelid work almost always looks good imo

No it isn’t lol? Canthopexy is completely reversible. I had extremely good results from it.

It’s safe

I retract this for now.

Gemini hallucinated me into thinking this last night, I’m less sure now.
