i have overbite so will rubber bands and braces mess me up

No. I had them to fix my overbite and it did nothing but ascend me. Just don't let them extract any of your teeth. I also saw a thread when I first got braces that hard mewing while having them on would stop any recession if it may happen. Don't know how true this is but I did it and gained nothing but forward growth.

did you have regular or damon braces?

Get Herbst appliance instead of rubber bands. Bands force ur midface back, Herbst appliance encourages your lower jaw forward.

Didn't it cause the illusion of recession?

Did the bands bring your jaw more forward?

What type of braces did you get?

I feel like it would have brought my maxilla back a bit, but my maxilla was extremely forward to begin with so it didn't make it flat or recessed or anything. But this is going to happen no matter what there's no way for you to move your chin forward without your maxilla moving back a bit if you have a overbite without implants or surgery. In my opinion the chin projection I gained, no longer looking like a recessed chud, and not having to jutt every single time I looked at myself was much more important then a little more maxilla projection.

I only had bands for 3 months out of the 2 years I had braces for, most of the chin projection I gained was from the power chains they gave me. The bands were more to correct my asymmetrical bite horizontally as my upper jaw was not aligned with my lower jaw at all.

I had regular braces for the first third of my treatment then got power chains for the last two thirds.

Thanks for all that info

Sorry for the long reply i would ape if you read it all and replied back

I just got damon braces to fix my overbite (first 2 months only on top teeth) my teeth aren’t necessarily väbad but the overbite i have makes my jaw look recessed, i have abt 6-8 mm overbite, no bottom teeth showing when i smile without jutting.

In about 2 weeks i will get the bottom rows installed, i dont know when but i will eventually get rubber bands to fix the overbite, i don have a pretty good developed maxilla and same for mandible. The whole process will take 10-12 months

Heres my worry’s, im a late bloomer and entered puberty about 2 years ago, so my face is still developing, and although pepole say its cope i hard mew and have been doing it for more than a year witch is probably why i do have pretty good development, now that i have braces i have heard that mewing could not have an affect, and bow that my face is developing im scared that the braces will stop the forward growth of my mandible and maxilla

Currently im jutting 24/7 to hide the overbite and have gotten so used to it that its just became my nature do it. Braces will obv vring my jaw forward and my upper teeth back so that the teeth match while minimising the overbite, im scared that i wont be happy with the result of the braces only to fix the overbite and will keep jutting after, witch is fine bc i will have perfect teeth and less illusion of recession, but bc they bring my top teeth back and bottom forward I'm skeptical abt if wether or not i will be able to keep jutting as much as before therefore not looking like i did before, since part of the reasons i am able to jut is bc of my overbite

Do you think i will be able to jutt after braces?

Do you think that i should keep mewing?

Do you think that braces will recess me?

Will mewing still work either way braces?

okay yall so what exaclty should i ask the ortho marking whoever has the best answer as solution

I doubt that your maxilla and mandible will stop growth while having braces because I had mine from age 15-17 and both my maxilla and mandible definitely kept growing. I’m not a late bloomer too as I started going through puberty at 13, so I don’t see any reason for your growth to stop.

If you finish braces and your bite gets corrected you will not be able to jutt anymore. Jutting is basically trying to recreate what your face would look like if you had a perfect bite. Once you finish braces your bite will be perfect so if you try jutting it’ll just look like you’re forcing an underbite and it won’t look good at all. I have no reason to believe that you wont like your results with braces. I used to have to jutt all the time as well before I got my bite corrected and another thing I noticed is how much better you are going to look while speaking with a perfect bite since you can’t jutt while talking.

Definitely keep mewing especially if you’re still in puberty, as well as make sure you hard mew when you have your elastics on. I always made sure to do this, not sure if it made a big difference or not, but I feel like it contributed to me not getting recessed like some people Ive seen that get braces during puberty.

And no I do not think braces will recess you as the information you gave on your overbite sounds very similar to mine.

If this was helpful please mark as solution 🙃

If the ortho says you don’t have space in your mouth for braces, ask for a pallet expander and do NOT let them extract any teeth. If they deny you and are adamant on extracting teeth, go find another ortho until they give you a pallet expander.

From my personal experience I can’t recommend a herbst appliance but it seems like a much better option as opposed to regular elastics, although it seems extremely extremely annoying to have to deal with in your mouth at times.

As well as this from what I’ve seen getting Damon braces as opposed to traditional ones seem to be the best option as well, although I didn’t have them so I cannot comment on my personal experience again.
