Will having braces for a overbite cause a recession or any other bad things

I currently have braces for a pretty bad overbite at 15. I don’t really trust the orthos tbh they told me it would only be on for 18 months. I was gonna get them off in June but now they want 36 more months so I’m pretty pissed.
