will retainers make me recessed

I got done with braces like 4 months ago and they gave me these bigass blue retainers and told me to wear them for 14 hours a day. when im wearing them i cannot close my mouth and i end up mouthbreathing the whole night, i cant mew when i have it on. ive only worn it like once and my teeth still look the same. what should i do
