Every girl who I work with likes to come in with "cuts" that look like they were inflicted by dragging a sewing needle across their skin. The scars don't last if they even form at all. They just want the temporary sympathy.
Not to mention that of all places, they deliberately choose parts of their body that are typically exposed for everyone to see.

As a guy, showing signs that you self-harm is usually seen as utterly pathetic, even by those who share the habit. People might genuinely view you as someone who's insane, whereas most females I've seen only receive friendly support and compassion- whether that compassion be forced or not.

Yep I stopped self harm pretty young since you start to realize it's over and it's literally pointless, either you kill yourself or you don't. Self harm is a good thing because it means you're trying to cope and get through something which implies you haven't given up fully yet
