Most of the stuff we enjoy today like democracy, freedom of speech, fair elections etc really wasn't a thing for most of history
It only showed up sometime in the last 150-200 years, give or take...
And it really only came about because countries got rich, became enlightended and then formed "better" governments.
That's how you get cool things like welfare state etc.
But these days everyone seems to be in some economic crisis.
aren't doing great and will probably have to start paying for defense now.
are doing poorly economically and aren't even a free country. (Economic success was the biggest thing to justify the dictatorship)
aren't even doing that bad economically yet might be the ones that trigger the break from the so called "rules based order". Trump administration might actually popularise "strong man politics" and thus lead to a rise in authoritarianism.
Low birth rates, shit economies, high inflation, high immigration...surely something will give...or am I just seeing monsters under the bed here?
