U can easily circumvent wm by writing it down and recording it, which even reduced workload. No thought is so complex that it even requires wm in the first place.
Also there are many mnemonics, method of loci, Repetition etc to Further reduce workload.

I stopped making notes when studying some months ago as I came to the conclusion that it was a waste of time as I could ctrl f anything from the source material, the note taking stuff was a bad habit I got from school and university (both worthless outdated shitholes), you still need memory to be able to relate one thing to the other even if you don't remember the details.
