Would eating only 1000 calories a day at a 1200 calorie deficit ruin my metabolism and if it does is there anyway to fix it?

How would it change it?

In this guide under preserving lean tissue the guy says "However if you decrease your calories significantly each time what ends up happening is you'll have to diet on 1200 calories (example) just to lose weight while the person who kept their deficit at a modest 500 calories and slowly decreased is dieting and losing weight on double that."
Im asking if this is permanent and if I will have to lower my calorie intake even less just to stay lean
