would it be best to use normal to dry skin cleansers if my skin turns dry from tretinoin?

kind of a dumb question but should i switch to cleansers for dry skin instead of cleansers for oily skin, if my skin turns dry from tretinion? My skin used to be naturally oily before tret and its dry as hell now so im a bit confused

Use a cleanser that doesn't strip oils off your skin, a gentle cleanser.

Dry/oily skin is sort of an overblown skincare myth. Cleansers for dry skin just have a lower amount of cleansing detergents AKA just stop cleansing as frequently

Oily skin is mostly diet/hormonal based. Your skin mositure barrier is just compromised from tret + maybe excessive cleansing. That red irritation is natural when starting tret. Just moisturize more, use some sort of humectant. Tret is supposed to suppress your oil glands a little so it's natural that you're more dry. If you want a mositurized but non oily skin, maybe get a toner or hyaluronic acid or a water jel with no lipids

Yes. It traps multitudes its own molar mass in water. Your body already produced it in sweat, tears, skin etc, but more can make your skin more moisturized. You have to use it this exact way tho:

Dampen your face with water after you finish cleansing and using active ingredients (but before sunscreen), apply HA serum, then moisturize. Never use it alone or it doesn't work, it needs to bind with water

Not necessarily WET face, just damp. After you cleanse, pat your face dry gently and dampen it with wet fingertips. If your face is wet, sunscreen will drool, pill or not form a cohesive coat. A lot of people don't mositurize until the evening and depend on sunscreen for moisture, but that works too
