If it turned out that Jesus (if he existed at all) believed in and preached about something completely different than what most modern christians think he did
Most gospels were written literally decades after the supposed death of Jesus and on top of that there were many conflicting sources and texts about his life and spiritual worldview. Paul/Saul never met Jesus in person and many of his supposed texts were written by other people. There are dozens of early christian texts that are radically different from all modern versions of christianity.
