Humans are naturally attracted to people they percieve as within their SMV-range (within conventional hypergamous standards ie. 70th percentile male and 55th percentile female with mutual attraction). This is a evolution-mediated technique to maximize reproductive chances.
For this reason, the people you find particularly attractive (as in a crush-like attraction, not some objective analysis) are much more likely to be attracted to you than you think.
TO DEMONSTRATE THIS POINT: It's common that people develop feelings for others when they are aware that the person they are attracted to may be less objectively attractive as others around them. In high school, you probably had a crush on a girl while knowing that people you DIDN'T have some obsession with were actually more attractive. This was because you subconsciously percieved her attraction to be very slightly less or equal to your own.
