Your childhood is the time where you develop a personality that you will keep for the rest of your life. If you were abused during those years, you will always be an abused dog, no matter how beautiful life becomes later, you will still remain an abused dog, constantly sensing danger and betrayal everywhere even when there’s no reason to do so, because you are paranoid, it’s a personality trait you adapted during your abusive times and you will keep it as a souvenir for the rest of your life.

Childhood ruined my personality forever, school kids didn't know I was aspie and never had friends or even too much contact with my parents as they were always out of home while I stayed playing videogames and drawing shit. It ruined my social skills, I definitely gotten better but the damage is done and I'm awkward asf with women. Designed to be a loser.
