Everyone talks about caffeine, nicotine and pre-workouts.
Almost nobody talks about Kola nuts, even though they've been used across West Africa for centuries to fight fatigue, suppress hunger and stay mentally sharp. The original Coca-Cola even got its name from the kola nut.
The interesting part isn't just the caffeine.
Unlike coffee, whole kola nuts naturally contain:
Theobromine is in the same chemical family as caffeine (methylxanthines), but it's a much milder stimulant. It lasts longer in the body, has mild bronchodilating and vasodilating effects, and many people describe the combination of caffeine + theobromine as feeling smoother than coffee.
Traditionally, people don't brew kola nuts like coffee. They're usually chewed raw or dried, often over a longer period rather than consumed all at once, which naturally spreads out the stimulant intake.

Unlike coffee, whole kola nuts naturally contain:
- 2–3.5% caffeine
- 0.05–1% theobromine
- Polyphenols (catechins & epicatechins)

Why I Think They're Worth Looking Into
- Cheap and natural source of caffeine.
- Short-term appetite suppression while cutting.
- Proven caffeine benefits for gym performance and focus.
- Theobromine may make the stimulation feel less harsh than coffee for some people.
- A long history of traditional use instead of being another "TikTok supplement."
Dosage
- 1–2 g = Light stimulation
- 3–5 g = Sweet spot
- 5–8 g = Strong (if you're already used to caffeine)
