4 sets of pushups to failure excessive?

Quite frankly dread it to be honest, I hit every muscle group 3x a week with calisthenics and some weights, I'll give the specific routine I do:

50 Pushups (4-5 min rest)
45 Pushups (4-5 min rest)
41 Pushups (4-5 min rest)
40 Pushups

Then I go to abs a few minutes after. They're almost always tough, and I'm not going to overload anything past 50 for now, once I get 50 around the board, I'll consider it, but I'm content with where I am now. As for hypertrophy and endurance, I'm not sure if I stuck a good balance between both, as the newbie gains ran out awhile ago, from now on, it's more of a steady journey I just have to stick with.

But I'm just wondering if I should take off a set for my own mental clarity and not having to traumatize my arms and chest, or I should keep it up for maximum aesthetics? Looking for someone educated on the topic, don't mind either choices.

Do table rows, rough on the bicep tendon, but I reckon they're getting stronger, trying my best to get a resemblance of a v taper at home

Get a pull up bar ffs don't do table rows.

I've been bitching at my mother forever for the pull-up bar, I've also been trying to get my hands on some b bars, I'm working with what I can.

Also, I could try working on my one arm pushups, but is it just to show off, or does it have a practical muscle building benefit?

I add 1-2 reps to all sets around the board every week.

One arm push ups are worth doing. It's double the weight after all. It can be a bit difficult to get proper chest activation.

I personally do six sets of push ups twice a week, but I can only do 40 on the first set and the last would be like 20, with all to failure. I haven't added reps in months, despite eating in a small surplus, it's frustrating.

excessive means that overdoing can actually kill hypertrophy because you’re not allowing the muscle to heal. so yes, that is another gaining muscle question. as working out is literally all about gaining muscle
