If I could go back in time I wouldn’t have said “Im not political” I would have been as flexible as a leaf towards the political landscape.
What I mean by this is, evaluate the political scene and whats acceptable, then form an appropriate set of beliefs.
For your success, you need to pick out a few “copes” so you don’t appear spineless. Pick something safe like “reducing taxes for small businesses” and stand on that opinion relentlessly. Constantly bring it up in any political discussion as a red herring.
Now that you have convinced those around you that your politically conscious, sit back and listen. Let your employers, coworkers, etc spew bullshit and reveal their hand.
Now its time to get to work…
You need to keep up with current events relevant to your superiors, and align yourself accordingly. Subtly bring these events up and give your aligned take (but toes in the water tier).
Doing this will ensure people open up to you in other ways, as you’re seen as a friendly ally. What you have done is psychologically weaponized politics.
Use your mutual “beliefs” to insert yourself into peoples personal lives. You could usually assume someones hobbies based on their beliefs, for example a leftist wouldn’t go hunting with you, and a conservative wouldn’t go to an art festival.
Try to form connections with people based on this vulnerability and exploit once accomplished. Your boss will be less likely to deny you for a raise the next time you ask, you’re more likable to your peers, etc.
This is the only way to leverage something as jester and ridiculous as “politics”. Politics are jester.
