an ad hominem is when you attack somone when you have almost nothing left for example if me and you were argueing and i said, "well your fat and ugly so your opinion is invalid" although i think your opinion should be invalid (if your fat and ugly).

Ad hominem doesnt only mean you attacking the others individuals height or attractiveness, you could call him stupid, squeaky voiced, etc...
