Can anybody make a proper explaination of how lip lifting works ?

Searching the internet and checking "before-and-after" images I still can't get how lip lift works, properly. Either it makes the line of the mouth (where upper and lower lips meets) higher, either it make upper lip shorter or maybe it pulling lip forward and etc. Could anyone who had it or just really keen on it explain me ?

Excess tissue that sits around the alar base is removed and lifted. The scar is hidden on the alar base and the results is a lifted upper lip and smaller philtrum. It's a relatively quick procedure and the scar should heal almost completely in 6 months to a year.
