Would a tooth borne expander be able to split the maxillary sutures just like how bone anchored would when your sutures are not fused or will is js increase the distance between molars and flare the molars out.

A tooth-borne palatal expander can split the midpalatal suture, but only when the sutures are still patent, which is usually in children and early adolescents. In older adolescents and adults, the force is more likely to tip teeth and bend alveolar bone rather than produce true skeletal separation, which is why bone-anchored or surgically assisted expansion is used once fusion has progressed.
