I personally have some mixed opinions on this. It used to irritate me that POC had certain biases in the college admission system, typically in their favor. Obviously there is nothing a black person cant do that a white person can, nowadays, but the effects of racism in the past still have some roots today. A big one being redlining.

I think that when college admissions look at someone’s income, household, and ancestry, and can determine they’ve been put in disadvantageous positions, I don’t see the problem in some lenience. I don’t think it should be the difference of someone with a 24 ACT vs 35 ACT, but maybe some factors like extracurriculars, or maybe a slightly lower threshold in scores. Let me know

No, it is not a good thing

The hardest workers should get rewarded the most and we shouldn't have unqualified doctors, pilots, and etc or this could cost some lives

you never truly wanted to go to college

what you did want was to be a model

to be adored by every human because of your looks

that is how you feel true bliss & happiness

not by going to some man made building for slaves

Shouldn’t we try to help people who have put in disadvantageous positions? I agree the most competent person is the most fit person for the job, but this is about giving them that opportunity to get that job, not about straight up handing it to them like candy. They still have to work for it. This is about college, not the job

Then do it by actually quantifiable metrics such as income status or zip code instead of "muh race." A poor white should be privileged over a wealthier black

Have you noticed theres hardly DEI for latinos

Thats cuz they now latinos are superior

You fucking moron where am I talking about diversity for job hires? Did you even read the thread? It’s about some small lenience for people who have been put in some harder situations for college.

I’m not surprised though look at your title. Fucking idiot

Because this isn’t about letting less competent people get jobs. I think we should only hire the people who are competent enough.

This is about college

obviously not bro, college is supposed to be a filtering for those who are high IQ enough to be successful in the future

they just bring any random blacks and bring the worth of each college lower and lower. eventually college will mean absolutely nothing lmao

You don’t think a slightly lower threshold, maybe the difference of 1-2 points on standardized tests would be fine? I think we should help people get more opportunities

honestly no. they shouldn't be given opportunities if they are mentally incapable of doing shit with the said opportunities they're given (because of low iq, or lower iq)

it should only be given to true hard workers and true intellectuals. no need to handicap others to the fucking top when they can't do anything at the top

most DEI students, if they receive credentials like this, they're given even more opportunities to slowly influence and control the world - which will lead in disaster.

kind of a retarded rant tried to push out all the ideas i had in my head, and reasons as to why DEI is a shit system

I agree

They shouldn’t be giving these positions out to morons. But I don’t see it problematic if they show some lenience towards some first gen kid who had to work a full time job in high school. You know what I mean? These people could be just as capable, or even more than the said students with “36 ACT”

It’s not that hard to get a good score if you just had a tutor growing up. I think it’s very situational

that's not DEI then, that's just understanding

DEI is accepting people who have less credentials/value than others solely based on their race and ethnic background.

but, then again, if someone had to work a full time job in high school, then they should drop out of HS to work full time.

Full time would imply that they didn't have time to even study or do any classwork, why would there be leniency showed toward this person? they have nothing to prove that they're worthy of being accepted to a top college.

+ they should just go to community college since they're most likely not rich enough to afford tuition, and scholarships don't cover everything.

and getting a 36 ACT really isn't that hard if you just practice, unless, of course there's an IQ gap between the test taker and others - and if there is, they still shouldn't be given the opportunity.

or if they're poor and have to constantly work, or if they're suicidal or some shit - all would make them not viable to go to college if that makes sense.

idk if im making sense sorry

My core argument was on dei, I just extrapolated off my main point.

But e is equity, and it’s factual some people are set back form the start. You don’t think someone who has been affected by the laws of redlining should maybe have a slight lenience? It’s not that they are dumber, it’s just all about resources.

Rich kids from suburbs have had the blueprint they followed for the college admissions system. They’ve had people tell them what to do and to do it. So I don’t see it so problematic for something like a 1-2 lower score on ACT or less involvement in school clubs or some shit for someone who has been in a disadvantage by these past laws.

i think if a kid is smart enough then he has more than enough resources around him to be successful in the college system, even while being dirt fucking poor.

or if a kid is motivated enough. regardless, if ur going to make that argument, then why give the kid that has less opportunities and resources from the beginning a better chance in going into college than someone who knows exactly what they want to do with their lives, is hard working, etc. looking past the fact that they're rich.

it doesn't make sense, the poor students shouldn't even be going to college or given the same opportunities, since they weren't born motivated or knowing what to do. if they were they'd go out and do everything they need to be successful down the path

i don't think this day and age someone is limited, and if they are, more likely than not they're very low IQ as well - so why give them the same opportunities?

It's kind of like saying that there should be DEI for down syndrome kids since they were given less "resources" (metaphor) from the beginning - no. They're already fucked. there's no saving them.

I know a lot of poor kids that did more extraordinary achievements than I could ever do, and guess what, they deserved to go where they went for college.

again this isn't even DEI, that's just understanding.

If the kid had a lot on his plate, ie. going to work to provide for his family at an early age, or something in the real world

or if he was literally held back from doing shit, then the college admissions would understand this and take it into consideration

that's not even DEI though, that's just ECs altered into a different form.

Even babysitting siblings and etc. are considered ECs and circumstances that are taken into consideration.

My main point was that redlining laws still affect people today. A slightly lower test score or other involvement could be due to this. The ecs and test scores are encompassed in that argument. I don’t see an issue.

what does redlining mean?

a slightly lower test score is usually due to either, low iq (shouldn't be accepted), not hard working enough (shouldn't be accepted), or they have other things to worry about in life (which would be taken into consideration during admissions, not related to DEI)

regardless, there's a college for every student. it's not like they won't be accepted to any college obviously

they'll be accepted to the college that best fits them. it's kind of as simple as that

Well, unfortunately for these people, the college you go to, is going to have some correlation with your salary. So I don’t think you can just say “there’s a college for everyone” that’s a really simplistic way of looking at it. College brings you prestige, and firms like that. It is about what college you go to.

you climb the ranks of the social ladder with your kin, if you're intellectual enough and raise your children properly - it could be done fairly easy.

life is all luck at the end of the day, certain circumstances can't be fixed or covered up.

Just a self-admission, bro; you got birthed with an Asian pancake face. Brutal, shit just didn't get the Asian genes you wanted.

But you can't project all your flaws onto other Asians. Talk about averages and all that, but others do live a life you can't.
