it works, the same way your hair gets lighter, your eyecolor gets brighter cuz of loss of melanin

your eyecolor gets brighter because of permanent damage done by the sun

As a kid I used to stare directly at the sun through the car window. After some time a purple circle would “appear” and block out the sun and I thought that was interesting so I kept doing it. I stopped eventually for some reason.

Yes it’s real jfl at the people gatekeeping

It’s common science I’ve done it. The change is subtle but my eyes went from dark brown to dark blue/ grey

No, the theory behind sungazing making melanin in the eyes go away like a laser treatment does not make sense scientifically. Here are several reasons why:

1. Mechanism of Action: Laser treatments designed to lighten eye color use precise and controlled energy to target melanin in the iris. These treatments are highly specific and designed to minimize damage to surrounding tissues. Sungazing, on the other hand, exposes the eyes to a broad spectrum of light and UV radiation, which does not selectively target melanin and can cause widespread damage.

2. Type of Light: Lasers used in medical treatments operate at specific wavelengths and intensities that are carefully controlled. Sunlight is not concentrated in this way and includes a broad spectrum of light, including harmful UV rays.

3. Safety: Sungazing can cause serious damage to the eyes, including retinal burns, solar retinopathy, cataracts, and macular degeneration. The risks far outweigh any unproven or speculative benefits.

4. Scientific Evidence: There is no scientific evidence to support the idea that sungazing can reduce melanin in the eyes or change eye color. The risks of eye damage from UV exposure are well-documented, while no credible studies suggest any benefit in terms of lightening eye color.

In summary, sungazing is dangerous and does not provide any benefits in terms of changing eye color. Any theories suggesting otherwise lack scientific validity and should not be pursued due to the significant risk of permanent eye damage.
