Dutasteride made my balls smaller pls help

Bad argument but it is indeed caused by gene expression via the AR pathway.
Technically it's caused by androgen receptors in the scalp but we can't change that yet.
We can only address the hormone side of the equation.

I'm confused about why you're taking Dutasteride then.
Why not just take minoxidil which is a vasodilator?
I’m transgender

Or atleast I’m trying to be

Technically though, it depends heavily on the AR sensitivity of the hair follicles. CAG repeats, polymorphisms, etc.

Do we even know if there was meant to be any evolutionary benefit to balding?

Like I said previously, testicular atrophy takes longer than a week. It's a gradual process and doesn't take place within just a few days.

my theory is that bald men were more likely to have the sun reflect on their bald head into the eyes of prey thus blinding them making them better hunters

There is no evolutionary benefit to balding. As you know the only primary mediator that determines if a species continues to survive is if they are able to breed as fast as possible without any distractions. Balding takes mostly place in the 20s (nowadays) to 30-40s for previous generations so it didn't obstruct the ability to breed.

Not every trait we have was supposed to be beneficial, some are just there because they are there. Nature only adapts if it needs to.

Don’t you think it is a bit strange the dht promotes hair growth everywhere

Except for where we need it:feelskek:

True, I've always found this idea very interesting. Evolution is obviously not infallible and is a work in progress.

Morning sickness of pregnant women proves this. It's meant to egest toxic chemicals to protect the fetus but pregnant women still get alcohol poisoning.

Why? Because alcohol was a relatively new invention in the evolutinary time scale. Evolution has not caught up.

WE don't need it to breed, atleast evolutionarily speaking.
You need hair to live

If you don’t have hair you end up committing suicide because you’re a disgusting bald cel

Nature doesn't care if we commit suicide, nature only cares if we breed at all. After that we are free to die. Though in fact, nature doesn't care about us at all. We are free to go extinct, other species would adapt to more available habitat.

The fact women find hair attractive and a good health indicator is interesting though.
Height is easily explainable - even though it's totally redundant in the modern world.

You have to differentiate between different scenarios though. Hair is attractive indeed, most of the breeding happens in the younger years where less hair loss occurs.

Beauty is multi-faceted, would take to long too list everything. But it ranges from averageness, health indicators, sexual dimorphism all the way to subjective beauty. All of these are interlinked too, it's not that easy to keep those terms apart.

I think hair is associated with youth which is in turn associated with fertility.
So maybe it's a proxy for that.

Exactly, good bridge. Fertility is in turn a health indicator. Sexual dimorphism and averageness are also sometimes health indicators. It's like the term "health" is the true fundament of attractiveness. Yes, I think it's that.

Hair loss is a common symptom of many diseases both genetic and acquired diseases

So it’s a health indicator as well to have hair

So I’ve been on 2.5 mg dut for a bit over a week now

And my balls have shrunk noticeably

I was naked in front of my cousin and she asked me if I was on steroids because of how small my balls were

@ey88 @cucklek @ToryToad @Jonas2k7
Gg ig. If you're going to keep taking it then there is no reason to ask the question tbh.
