Okay today’s guide is a new and promising idea, it’s about using topical SIK inhibitors to darken freckles without losing contrast like you would on MT1/2 or sun tanning.
I’ll keep it simple and straightforward!
Okay now that we understand that, I’ll explain what freckles are.
WHAT ARE FRECKLES?
So see what I’m getting at? It’s simply just selective tanning, apply it to pre existent freckles and they’ll get darker.

WHAT ARE TOPICAL SIK INHIBITORS
It’s pretty much just a topical version of SIK inhibitors (Salt-inducible kinases), it’s not systematic and much more selective to your topical application.
In research it shows that inhibiting SIKs in melanocytes (pigment-producing cells) activates the MITF (microphthalmia-associated transcription factor) pathway.
To put it in short, when there’s SIK in melanocytes they suppress MITF activity, so by inhibiting SIK it mimics MITF activity hence causing a sunless tan.
It also giga improves skin after UV exposure by reducing cyclobutane pyrimidine dimers, or CPDs, reducing MMP-1 and Decreasing UV-induced erythema.

HOW THEY FUNCTION WHEN APPLIED
TLDR They phosphorylate and inhibit CRTC proteins, which in turn limits the activity of CREB and upregulates MITF
Okay so first the inhibitor penetrates the skin and blocks SIK activity in melanocytes.
This allows CRTCs to activate CREB/MITF signaling even without UV exposure.
Result: Increased transcription of pigment-related genes → more melanin production (primarily eumelanin) and better transfer of melanosomes to keratinocytes

Results might not be perfectly even, everyone responds differently.
Over stimulation might lead to uneven pigmentation, hyperpigmentation in non freckled areas, or other skin reactions.
Long term safety for this specific use isn't fully established, as most work is still research oriented or cosmetic stage.
