people dont understand genetics. take your height for example. height is polygenic, meaning its influenced by thousands of genetic variants, and each parent carries their own combination of them. you dont inherit a fixed “height gene” from your dad and another from your mom. during reproduction, those variants get shuffled, so you can inherit more height increasing variants, more height decreasing variants, or both even.

thats why two parents with similar heights can have kids who end up noticeably different, and why two tall parents can still have a shorter kid. your parents height gives you a strong signal about the range your likely to fall into, but the specific combination of variants you inherit can move you higher or lower within that range. genetics isn't a guaranteed number, it's a distribution of possible outcomes.
