You need to target specifically the cells, that make the growth hormone and our body has naturally such chemicals. Growth hormone releasing hormone has stimulating effects on these cells, but I'm not sure about the therapeutical usage.

It was probably spinal growth or late closure. They could have gained some height just due to the increase in bone thickness as well
