I have been reading up on older threads here like the deep vs shallow canine fossa hollow cheeks thread.
Ive seen lots of people mistaking the zygomaxillary notch for a deep canine fossa.
@thecel made a good thread on the importantce of a large zygonasal distance, this is what creates this notch.

this is basically the distance between the end of your zygos to your start of your maxilla.
I will cover what a pronounced notch looks like and how one can identify it.
Example 1- Tyler Ballou
Ive seen many claim he has a deep canine fossa.
In reality he has an exceptionally shallow canine fossa. The indention you see is from the zygomaxillary notch.
Look at the dip from under his eyes to around the alar base.
Example 2- Alain Delon
Here is delon who has been named as someone who possesses a deep canine fossa, when in reality he has an exceptionally shallow one.
What you see is once again his zygomaxillary notch. As delons zygos are lower set and taper in more than Tyler the vertical distance is smaller therefore his indention is lower down which is ideal. But he has less depth as the horizontal distance is shallower.
As it creates more depth on the midface this leads to the anterior nasal spine look futher projected relative to the midface and just adds further midface projection and depth.
Here is a visual diagram to further explain what each part is. As it is very confusing.
Dark blue- Projected visual landmarks. Zygos and the maxillary area
Cyan- Canine fossa area
Red- Zygomaxillary notch
Rather than a deeper canine fossa. You need a shallower canine fossa to provide depth contrast for the notch to sink in rather than flatten out.
There is still much more to be discussed on this topic but it would take too long.
An intresting thing I am discovering though is the perfect ideal face definitely does exist. A lot of these halos im finding require very strict prerequisites to form. Now if you meet these and to also retain harmony only certain sizes/measurements will allow all of it to fit.
A quick example would be. To have the ideal notch you need very high set zygos that start back and wide and taper in, incredibley sharply downwards and inwards so the decompression sits closer to the anterior nasal spine. (Basically delons but higher set zygos and angled more sharply inwards and downwards)
You also need a elite and harminous level of maxillary projection, which i covered in my previous thread. Now if you layered both criteria only certain skull sizes and shapes could possible satisfy the angles and the halos. Now if you also factor in basic harmony ratios it becomes even more limited. But this is only if you wanted everything ig.
