russia can last indefinitely. they demonstrated this by having the largest casualties in ww2. the west is out of natural resources. russia has a vast reserve. ukraine can keep importing more tanks and arms, but one foab and it's all over. they're probably waiting for the exact moment that they send in abrams and bradleys and strykers to deploy their more advanced bombs and missiles.

i dont think putin expected that many losses in soldiers and he cant really commit to a further full assault because that would leave russia vulnerable for attack by other nations. i think hes just going to hold onto the land that they retained and play defensively until *hopefully* ukraine/the west gives up. theyre also gonna keep randomly bombarding inner cities like kiev to make the west try and plea for a treaty
