Very smart

Quantative work is a tier above FAANG, and that is already a very high bar

Being in a top university greatly increases your chance of getting in at the entry level

To put into perspective Jane Street, a top quant company, hired the highest scoring student in Cambridge's maths course. That is your competition.

no problem

I don't know much about quant work but if you specialise in something well enough you have a good chance of securing a job in it no matter how competitive it is. Up to you on how to specialise.

Also don't do it just cause of the salary.

Smart at a particular area, which mainly problem-solving maths, comp ect. Typically you need to be top of your class at unis like Oxford, Imperial, MIT, IVY LEAGUE etc

You get a lowish IQ score if you fuck up verbal but answer all the maths/problem solving bits correctly so its not the best metric of measuring if you can get into Quant.

Are you very good at maths, know how to code well ect. Those are more important factors

I'm a strategy head, and I'm basically at par with quants from big firms, but a little behind the guys at top, top small firms.

I'm 140-144 btw, but my job is more about being able to see things, then get my quants and analysts to support me with pitches and Capex and shit.

So yeah, if u wanna walk in on million bucks a year at Renaissance or citadel, as a true hardcore autist Quant, you need to be 140 as a MINIMUM but u also prob need to get a masters and PhD lol

Not very smart. I did an internship at a quant firm for just two months. If you're a UG or even a PG, they aren't going to ask you to formulate strategies (only Optiver and JS make you do that). What you'll be doing is similar to carpentry but for 11-12 hours. I rank in the 99.8% percentile in terms of IQ and have been to national olympiads in two different subjects. They took me because of that, though any person above 115-120 would do just fine doing what i was made to do.

It’s high but not as high as you think.
The interviews are usually stats and probability based and can be aced with some practice.
A masters, PHD or an Olympiad medal will certainly help you secure an interview but a good GPA from a target school with some internship exp should be able to secure a spot too.
Jane street is probably the most selective among those that hire new grads. Citadel churns through people so fast that interviews aren’t too hard to get.

Don’t expect to see any Chads or Stacies in your office though. Unless you fraternize with the recruiters or PR people.

I actually got offered a role at citadel, but it was middle management, not hard-core.

Kept in touch, might go there once they figure our what they doing in China, particularly greater bay

Turned down opportunites on the engineering side. Many complain that the work is mundane despite the high compensation and most leave after 2 - 3 years or get PIPed.
Though I would assume it's better in managerial roles.

Yeah agree, bur engineering side pays insane at citadel no, at least once u got past ur 3rd year of tenure

Most firms pay similarly for both. AlphaGrep, Tower Research and SquarePoint i.e. all pure quant firms pay equally. JPMC,BOA otoh pay their quants almost double but still take diversity hires for that role

This forum is so fundamentally stupid and irrational lol. You guys deny statistics and science and genuinely think commiting crime is a better option than getting a job. majority here besides greycels are less than 100 iq lol , assuming iq is a decent enough correlate to intelligence.

Legit only crusille and mrz have made smart posts

What degrees would you look for? i was thinking CS+Finance from a school that is top 10 in both. I just don't know

I will never understand why people want to go through blood and sweat to compete with 99.999th percentile 160 IQ naturally gifted superhumans from the most prestigious universities in the world just to be employed and make less money than girls showing their feet on the internet and teenage script kiddies. Entrepreneurship is the way

Those people will have it easier but muh hard work is still helpful if quant is your goal. FAANG or similiar is a more realistic goal to aim for though.

Lol at realistic. The vast majority of software developers will never work at a FAANG. And don't think that these people are somehow incompetent.
