A. Choose 1 of the three fallacies listed below and find a real-life example (from the news,
internet, etc) that corresponds to it. Be sure to complete steps 1-3 above.
a. Appeal to emotions
b. Appeal to popularity
c. Circular reasoning
Circular reasoning:
Context:
Mewing is a technique to make one's jawline more defined (more aesthetic) by changing one's tongue
Placement and breathing. Mike Mew, an orthodontist, created this technique that is named after him.
This discussion happened on a forum about improving one's looks.
This man whose username is "slayer01" says that mewing works because it says so on the channel of
the creator. It's a redundant claim, of course that on Mike Mew's channel they will show their own biased
evidence. It is circular reasoning because his argument can be boiled down to: "Mike Mew's claim is true
because Mike Mew claimed that his claim is true" The premise is the same as the conclusion.
B. Choose 1 of the three fallacies listed below and find a real-life example (from the news,
internet, etc) that corresponds to it. Be sure to complete steps 1-3 above.
a. Diversion
b. Personal Attack
c. False Cause
Diversion:
A tweet from Donald Trump.
Trump claims he has no deals in Russia but instead of backing up his claim with an argument he draws
attention to another matter as to avoid answering the question.
