See, every man has two chromosomes, an X-chromosome and a Y-chromosome (women, on the other hand, have two X chromosomes). When you get your DNA or blood tested, we can find out your paternal haplogroup, known as Y-DNA, which is passed on from father to son, and stretches back thousands of years ago.

Eastern European men, like South Asian men, usually have R1a as their Y-DNA haplogroup. Western European men usually have R1b as their Y-DNA haplogroup. Nordic men usually have I2 as their Y-DNA haplogroup. East Asian men usually have C as their Y-DNA haplogroup, and African men usually have E as their Y-DNA haplogroup.

And guess what, my Y-DNA haplogroup is literally L.

No wonder I keep taking Ls in life. Even my damn paternal haplogroup is L. Some jokes just write themselves.

That said, my Y-DNA haplogroup is found in only 5.1% of Pakistan, and it's even found in Afghans and Chechens. Both are extremely high T peoples.

It doesn't mean we share any recent ancestry, mind you. It just means we were cousins 18,000 years ago in our case. Afghans, Chechens, and I all have different subclades of this Y-DNA haplogroup, but unlike me, they don't take any Ls. They give Ls to others.

The earliest man to carry my haplogroup was a man in Armenia, 6000 years ago. Which is interesting, because most Armenians don't have this Y-DNA haplogroup IIRC.

My bad, Nordic men usually have I1 as their Y-DNA, it's Balkan men that usually have I2 as their Y-DNA.

Thanks boss, is there any reason you chose AncestryDNA over MyHeritage or some other DNA testing kit?
Yes, AncestryDNA provides the best raw data file. For example, on qpAdm, it runs 390K SNPs. Second-best is LivingDNA, with around 250K SNPs and they also give both haplogroups, at a fairly deep level for a company that isn't specialized in deep-testing. Then 23andme, but they were hacked recently and then MyHeritage with the lowest SNPs at 137K SNPs. My preference would actually have been LivingDNA. I tested with AncestryDNA but I was able to find out my Y-DNA, through a third-party predictor. I can confirm they predicted it correctly, but they gave a basal haplogroup whereas LivingDNA gave a much deeper subclade. I would recommend them since they are a great company and you don't have to pay a lot of money for it.

Everyone has them. Yours will be E too.
Ik. Mine could be J1 since my paternal surname is Arabic, and supposedly the origins of my surname can be traced back to Arabia. It could be LARP since in Morocco it was a common practice among wealthy families to earn baraka. In fact, this is what Abdel Krim the riffian did to get baraka againts the invasors, humiliating the Spanish in what the Spanish call the Anual disaster.

MyHeritage is Israeli, that's enough reason to not choose them.

If you have Arabic ancestors, then you likely would have J1, however, most Moroccans have the Berber Y-DNA, E. You can only find out if you take a DNA test. And honestly, the whole "we are Arabs" in non-Arab populations is very common. In South Asia, you have Syeds who claim to be Arabs originally. However, most of these claims are unfounded and they are just locals. But some actually do have J1 but it's not common.

I'm planning to do so, since while it's true that part of my origins are Arab, I'm supposedly descended from a very important figure in Islam.

You're right, A and B are also common in Africa. I didn't think of it, but thanks for reminding me.

And yes, did you know R originated in Siberia? That's where R1a and R1b came from. At the same time, R2 comes from Iran.

Have you had a DNA test done? My blasian friend has a Levantine haplogroup but it's E. Didn't expect that since his father is fully West African.
