Just don't overdo it when bulking. If you're natty, you can't build muscle very fast. You just need to make sure you're in a calorie surplus each day ideally and that's it. 82-92 calories above maintenance is enough to make gains. If you gain 12 lbs of muscle natty in your first year, you're lucky. And one pound of muscle only takes 2,500-2,800 calories to create. And then the gains drop off from there. Though it depends a lot on your height too. If you're 6'2", you obviously have a much higher natty ceiling than a 167cm short king like myself.

The down side of a tiny surplus like 82-92 is that it's difficult to track. Due to number rounding and margins of errors on nutrition labels and human error with weighing and tracking. Like do you absolutely track everything you eat? It's hard to do.
