That is not dumb at all. Even einstein said imagination is more important than knowledge because logic will only get you from A to B and imagination can take you everywhere. Logic is too limiting and we will never get full truth. Thats why I think believing that possibiliy of god is not dumb.

To claim that something either exist or not you have to presuppose an "epistemology", which is like a "system of thought, with its axioms, rules, etc.

Normally we have different epistemologies applied to different fields of knowledge, but "God's existence" simply goes beyond normal epistemologies, since all epistemologies are based on "self-evident axioms", and we cannot ask ourselves if an absolute being of sorts truly exists based on things we take for granted just because they "seem to make sense".

So yeah, it seems like there's really no way to assess anything regarding God's existence (at least, not apparently), like if he exists or not... Camus likes to call that "void" in knowledge The Absurd.
