I'm eating mogger food right now

2 aI don't know much about it since my grandma is long dead and as I said I never met most of my family from there.
The reason I assumed pashtun was partially because they're Muslim.
As far as I know my grandfather came from a prominent high caste family. That's where the caste stuff comes from. He was estranged from them and took a new last name. I THINK he was Kshatriya but I'm not really sure.
I can assure you they were not Pashtun but rather something else. They don't have a history of being Hindu, so they couldn't belong to such a caste. Maybe millenniums ago though. But that changed when Islam came.

Never heard. Should I order some?
It's sold in Asia only. Don't think you van get your hands on it. But if you can order it online, go for it. It's great. Best soda I have had.

What do you think they could be?

What part of the subcontinent is your father from? If you can tell me then I could possibly tell more.

Mirin bhai, so you are Panjabi as well? Well, it seems likely that your father's cousins were Panjabis as well or maybe Kashmiri Pandits?

My grandmom's side was muslim.
My grandfather's side was more straight forward. I just know it was a rich Punjabi family.

Mirin bhaijaan, I am also Panjabi. What kind of Panjabi are you, religious-wise? Realixing your family is/was Muslim now makes sense, those cousins of your dad could indeed be Pashtuns. But could also be Kashmiris or just Panjabis.

Weird scenario, let me explain
So as I said my grandmom came from a muslim family, my grandfather came from a hindu family and they married, my grandfather was already estranged from the family and this made things worse on both ends. Regardless my grandmom "converted", and she actually ended up being more religious than my grandfather lmao.
My parents are irreligious, my dad doesn't really care but if I am to follow lineage I would call myself Muslim.

Okay, I think logically speaking that those cousins of your father weren’t Pashtuns if his family wasn’t Islamic. So we either have Kashmiri Pandits or Panjabi Hindus left. It’s interesting that you come from an irreligious Panjabi household, that’s very rare. I myself am Islamic and come from an Islamic Panjabi household. Do your parents come from India then? If so, which state? Feel free to PM. I know Indian Panjab has been tripartitioned sadly based on linguistics.

Well, as I said, my grandmother came from a muslim family and later "assimilated" into Hinduism
But yeah, its definitely an atypical scenario.
Thinking about it, it does make sense that they're Kashmiri though. As for my parents, I don't want to divulge too many details, but they basically met in a big city when working. They later both moved to the US.
