1. IPD is the actual underlying structural spacing of the eyes, while ESR is just a ratio that depends on overall facial width.
Because of that, IPD directly affects how the midface is perceived, where as ESR can change easily depending on changes in bizygomatic width, for example:

Two people can have the exact same ESR but completely different IPDs, and the one with better actual spacing in IPD will look more harmonious

A good ESR can be achieved artificially through facial width.

Decent IPD, and bad ESR will look good 99% more of the time than bad IPD and Decent ESR.

2. If you have unideal ESR/IPD, you better fucking pray its on the larger side.
Ideal spacing > wideset > close set, and wide set is generally more forgiving than closeset.

Close set eyes compress the midface, making the central area look crowded and tighter. Wide set eyes, on the other hand, create more openness and spacing, which is perceived as less harsh, wideset eyes are also more forgiving with other features. If someone has strong cheekbones, wider spacing can still look harmonious. Close-set eyes are harder , since the crowding effect remains noticeable even if other features are strong, if you are developing during puberty, and you have close set eyes, when your bizygomatic width increases your ESR will just continously drift away from ideal, while wide set eyes on the other hand do the opposite, you drift TOWARDS ideal.

Allat said, extremes on either end look off, ideal spacing is still the goal. But if you’re comparing deviations from ideal,
Wide set is better :Sigma:

IPD does not matter
A person with a big skull, for example a 6'8 man can have a large IPD, and someone with a small skull, for example a 4'10 female can have a small ipd
but their esrs could completely normal, making them look normal

This doesnt prove that IPD doesnt matter lol. Someone with a bigger skull has a bigger IPD, someone with a smaller skull has smaller IPD, sure. But ESR helps normalize those proportions.
But IPD still determins the ACTUAL spacing of the eyes. Two people can have the same ESR and one still looks different and less harmonious if their IPD is unideal.
ESR explains proportion across different skull sizes, but IPD is what actually affects harmony.

ipd on its own tells us nothing about how ugly someone is unless its something completely abnormal [but this goes for literally every ratio no matter how useless]
you are saying ipd matters because it effects esr, but this proves esr matters
IPD is only an issue if the bizygo that goes along with it is bad

The 0.46 esr + one eye apart combo is law when it comes to eye spacing

isn't ideal 0.445 for men?
one eye far apart is ideal yes, i remember measuring mine, finding out its 1 eye apart in 2023 and being hyped asf
pretty lucky with my 33mm pfl

I feel like anything between 0.45 and 0.49 is generally seen as harmonious. I still think eye aspect ratio (pfl/palpebral height) is the most important eye area proportion

My point is that ESR is dependent on IPD, while IPD is the actual structural spacing itself, your saying ipd tells us nothing about how ugly someone is but saying that esr matters? Lmao.
Saying “IPD only looks bad if bizygo is bad” still admits IPD matters, because it’s one of the variables determining harmony in the first place,ESR tells you whether spacing is proportionate to facial width, but IPD affects how crowded or open the midface actually looks, which is far more important, I never said "ESR doesnt matter" Both matter, but IPD is the underlying structure while ESR is just the ratio thats derived from it.

i used to think i have .50 esr and that it was over for me till i measured alot of chadlites and saw they had .50 esr too, i was confused since i measured other .50 esr havers and noticed they look dolphin as fuck

till i realized it was just lens distortion and my esr is .47/48

0.49 is too much, I myself have 0.48,1 ESR and look wide set

Yh, same, I measured my ESR and genuinely thought it was .54, couldnt believe it until I realized lens distortion matters

Ideal is 0.44,7-0,47,4 im pretty sure

Yes. The ideal intercanthal distance is roughly the length of one eye, that’s what "one eye apart" means
Well if u have fucked pfl then "one eye apart" saying falls apart lol

True. As I mentioned, eye aspect ratio is more important than both esr and icd

yeah just shut the fuck up with this thread saying wide is better than close. wide set eyes literally look deformed and alien while close set could still look like a human if its in the 0.42-0.44 range

even you agree wide set eyes are "too much"

0.454 esr is the perfect esr for men, 14.3mm bizygomatic width, 65mm ipd, and 32.5 mm icd, pfl 32.5mm, ocd 94mm
