I got you fam, so this wouldnt be a good approach because being "knowledgeable" means nothing in the stock market, since the knowledge you have is the same knowledge that is publicly available for anyone to get. Let me break it down further:i’m sleepy so i prolly sound retarded, why not invest in stocks of startups with new technology in an area that you are knowledgeable about? For example: if you’re knowledgeable about cybersecurity you would invest startup companies that are creating new promising threat detection software or something of the sort (idk about cybersec jfl) wouldnt that have a high rate of return if you actually are knowledgeable about it?
- the stock prices are based on future expectations. So if there is information that suggests a company will become more valuable in the future (for example, information that suggests the company is gonna have a lot of profit), the stock prices of that company will go up.
- so if you think a certain company will become more valuable in the future because of something you know, it might seem like it makes sense to invest in it, after all, that would mean the stock prices would go up right?
- but the thing is, everyone in the stock market hass access to the same information that you have. So that info you thought only you knew about, is something that the whole market knew about, and it's already incorporated into the current stock prices. Meaning that that rise in the stock prices already happened when the market found out about that information
- you can never be faster than the market when it comes to finding out about some information. The market is comprised by millions of people, including traders and investing bots who are always trying to find out the latest info as fast as possible, 24/7.
- thats why even professional investors (such as fund managers) cant beat the market in the long run (as demonstrated by the data I mentioned in this thread), because investing based in your own beliefs makes no sense in a market that is efficient in incorporating new info accurately and quickly into the stock prices.
