Thomas Insel (yes that is really his name) discovered that a receptor for antidiuretic hormone (ADH) (also known as vasopressin) differed between promiscuous Montane voles and monogamous Prairie voles.
When he inserted the ADH receptor gene of the monogamous vole into a lab mouse the behavior of the mouse switched from promiscuity to a monogamous pair bond with a trad qt.
