Given all of the above, especially the narrow palate and my breathing/tongue posture issues, do you think my case would qualify for MSE or another form of palatal expansion?
I’m currently undergoing orthodontic treatment with braces. I have several structural issues with my jaw and palate, including:
- Deep bite
- Narrow palate – when I try to maintain proper tongue posture, the sides of my tongue start to hurt due to pressure against my teeth
- Unilateral condyle deficiency
- Mandibular asymmetry
- I often wake up with my mouth open
- I sometimes have mild breathing difficulties
- I occasionally wake up during the night, likely due to these issues
- I’ve been referred to speech therapy (1 session/week for 6 weeks, 30 minutes each), although the first appointment is in about two months
- I’ll be asking for a bite plate to help correct my deep bite
- There’s also a possibility of getting MSE (Maxillary Skeletal Expansion), which might help counter the vertical (downward) facial growth caused by years of poor posture (I used to slouch constantly)
Given all of the above, especially the narrow palate and my breathing/tongue posture issues, do you think my case would qualify for MSE or another form of palatal expansion?
