Just google "attractiveness and intelligence correlation", you'll see a ton of studies and articles. Overall from what i've seen, correlation is slightly positive. Life experience is not conclusive at all, it's just your observations + you have a small sample irl. If we go by this logic then from my experience the most intelligent people i met in my life were generally on good looking side, my one chad friend easily is gifted in iq department, but he is wasting it right now partying and taking drugs.

And about the STEM staff or scientists, look at it this way, most of them are very high intelligence and they are in themselves outliers so statistically they have very small chance of being born pretty. They also don't take care of their health/looks so they naturally drop in this field.
