This is the same man who once carried over 12 backlogs, struggled through exams. Even many professors told him to quit engineering and was written off by almost everyone around.

He wasn’t high IQ, wasn’t naturally gifted, and didn’t have that "genius” aura people love to romanticize. I've seen his struggle first hand. He used to study all week but still ended up getting shit grades. Even his parents had given up hope on him but what he did have was stubborn consistency. He kept showing up to classes. He was one year senior to me but was attending the same classes that I did in because of his backlogs. He kept begging professors to teach him, kept failing, learning one concept at a time slowly while others coasted.

Over time all of that compounded and after receiving more than 300 rejections he started working as a software engineer at CommonVault in July not because he was special but because he refused to quit he is like me but his story is 10x more brutal than mine. It's been half a year since he has been working as software engineer and he's already getting a promotion soon.

Big mirin, good job to him.

He probably feels great knowing that he's showed he's worth something to those that didn't believe. :Comfy:

the longer i spend in this field the more I realize I'll almost never be able to compete for the salaries and positions I want at big tech. I legitimately think my IQ isn't adequate to get to the level of leetcode needed to pass these interviews unless I get lucky with one i've seen before. I struggle so much at leetcode compared to people I know.

Seriously wondering whether I'm destined to work at bottom of the barrel companies and never crack those high paying jobs.

Last employment option for me is becoming a Brahmin sperm donor
Too bad they need high IQ sperms and I'm far from that :feelswah:

Leetcode and data structures can be learnt brah. LeetCode is grindable and objective(ish). System design is like performing a memorized dance while the interviewer randomly changes the music. I was just talking about this with @redeemthecard data structures is just lots and lots of practice.

Most can almost certainly work hard to reach an above average level or even higher in nearly every aspect of life.

Ive known many people like this. Complete midwits who absolutely grinded their way through everything. No intelligence, no connections nothing. Just pure hardwork and extreme work ethic

I know some people with below average intelligence who are legit millionaires from nothing. One of them was in the hotel business, climbed to a top general manager role and now opened his own successful hotel.

It’s not just STEM. If you’re good at anything you can become successful.

lifefuel, especially for software, ik how brutal the market is rn especially for them.

the introduction of AI has made the entry level market for engineering uncertain at best. As now engineers can accomplish 1.5x the amount of work or more.

So you attribute his success and his never give up attitude to genetics too?
Not genetics per se, but level of endurance varies from person to person. Your ability to succeed can be hindered by lack of support, poor IQ, mental health issues, etc whereas others can more easily rise above them.
